26 POINT LU SPOTLIGHT: Sharon’s Team: Lucy's MRC Ladies
By Sharon Korn
When I first heard about 26 Point LU from Zoe, I knew I wanted to be part of it. The idea of raising money and awareness for Camp Lucy, while working toward a shared goal with my teammates, was the biggest draw. Just three years in, this event has already become a highlight—something that feels both fun and deeply meaningful.
What resonates most for me about the mission is how Camp Lucy empowers middle school girls and gives them confidence. I think about my own childhood and how different it might have been if I’d had something like this at that age. It’s amazing that girls can access such a supportive, affirming experience so early. As an aunt to many nieces and nephews, I see firsthand the disparities in confidence between girls and boys, and I know how vital it is to give girls equal footing for the future. That’s why Camp Lucy resonates so strongly—it’s about confidence, resilience, and the ability to stand up for yourself.
At 26 Point LU, my favorite part has been watching the Camp Lucy girls come together—pulling on the ergs side by side, connecting with each other and with us. There’s something powerful in that moment: you can see the mission in action. Unlike other competitive events, this one feels lighter—there’s less stress and pressure, and more joy. It’s about giving, about pushing yourself with your team, and knowing that every stroke benefits the girls of Camp Lucy.
Looking ahead, I’d love to see the event grow—more teams, more energy, more people coming together around this cause. If I were to describe 26 Point LU to a friend in one sentence, I’d say: It’s a chance to push yourself and compete with your team, but the real victory is in lifting up middle school girls, giving them the confidence to find their place and their team through rowing.
